Waitemata Hunt District Hunter Derby
Saturday the 7th of May, Helensville District A&P Grounds. Come on and enter this District event!
Last year Waitemata Hunt put on an exciting new event for riders, the Waitemata District Hunter Derby. It went down brilliantly and we attracted 60 riders, many spectators and it was loads of fun. This year we are running it again on 7th May at the Helensville A&P grounds. Designed for riders of all levels this will be a fun day with something for everyone with Hunter Derby classes, Handy Hunter, Flat classes (under saddle), Scurries and Novelty hunting style events.
Derby rounds will be judged on style over a course of 12-13 natural style jumps over undulating ‘hunting’ style terrain. Winners of each of the derby rounds will win a rug for their horse and winners of key events will receive prizes on the day.
We have two new divisions in both derby classes this year – under 18 years and Masters (over 40) derby. You can only enter one height for jumping classes and can choose from 75-85cm/ 85-95cm.
Silverware for Hunt Members
Hunt members will get their own silverware from special divisions in classes marked *. Hunt prize giving will be at the conclusion of the day.
This year we have a new jumping ring and Handy Hunter and the Wire Jump will run concurrently with the Derby classes. This will keep things moving. We have also made the Under 18’s a special division rather than a separate class.

“I grew up with horses and learnt to ride at a very early age on our ponies -no saddles or stirrups until we had our balance! Our father was a farrier and a farmer but wasn't keen on his girls riding, my mother however a keen rider was and hunted. My first pony was Dolly the confidence builder, then onto Whiskers the knowledgeable pony who was helpful; you know the one who stopped and waited after you fell off! Slowly but surely we all graduated to thoroughbreds but all this was given up when the travel bug hit and I left NZ for the UK. Every opportunity to ride was always taken; horseback in the snow around Lochness, canters in Richmond Park, galloping across the moors in Devon and then tricky little Arab ponies in the Sahara, Egypt.
The undeniable attraction to horses is always present for me. Now with a long standing and successful career in real estate I have combined my rural upbringing, life in England with my fantastic family into a really rewarding and successful career. I love working with lifestyle properties and have achieved great successes and continue to enjoy my role in ‘pairing properties to their proprietors’. Thank you for the opportunity to sponsor your Derby, stay safe, enjoy and remember to call me for your next real estate move” Andrea Turzynski, Harcourts Kumeu, 0276624501, DDI 09 412 2853
